Excavator Tiltrotators

A tiltrotator adds continuous rotation and side tilt between the excavator and its working tool. Select the upper machine interface, lower attachment interface and control system together; they determine how the bucket, grapple or fork moves and how hydraulic tools connect.

engcon EC219 Series 2 — S60 Tiltrotator

EC219 Series 2 serves 14–19 tonne excavators with 45° tilt each way, continuous rotation and a standard S60 lower hitch.

A tilt bucket and a tiltrotator do different work

A tilt bucket tilts its own cutting edge. A tiltrotator tilts and rotates the attachment below it, so the same unit can orient a grading bucket, digging bucket or suitable material-handling tool. A direct mount connects the tiltrotator to the excavator linkage; a sandwich installation places it beneath an upper quick coupler.

The control system defines the hose and electrical package

DC2/SS10 and SS9 have different flow entries. Specify the control system, joysticks, wiring, valve arrangement and auxiliary tool connections with the body. A hydraulic tool below the tiltrotator needs a connection route through the lower interface, in addition to tilt and rotation. The S40, S45 and S60 pickup standards describe distinct lower interfaces.

Working example: a landscaping footing in New York

Ben Rathjen used an engcon EC206 on a CAT 305.5 in his landscaping business at Clinton Corners. A 120-foot wall footing ran through a line of trees, making attachment orientation and material placement part of the excavation task. The purchase decision in that kind of work is the complete combination of small-carrier mount, bucket interface, integrated handling tool and controls.

Buying questions

Is the S60 interface the excavator model?

S60 identifies the lower quick-hitch interface. The upper mounting still needs the excavator linkage or coupler arrangement, and the control package needs its hydraulic and electrical connections.

Why does the control-system name matter on a quote?

The engcon Series 2 table gives different flow entries for DC2/SS10 and SS9. The selected system changes the valve, hose and control package.

Does a tiltrotator add weight and height?

Yes. EC219 Series 2 lists 535 kg and a 517 mm build height. Include that assembly in the bucket-tip geometry and carrier lift combination.
