Excavator Hydraulic Thumbs

Compare an integrated JT01 thumb bucket for 3–4 tonne excavators with a standalone JT02 hydraulic thumb for 4–6 tonne machines. Choose bucket width or existing-bucket tine geometry, then add mounting, cylinder, hoses and pivot service parts.

Match the tine path with the actual bucket

Bucket width does not alone describe the thumb. Draw its tine positions between the bucket teeth, the shared or independent pivot, and the full bucket curl path. A quick coupler changes the bucket position relative to a stick-mounted thumb. Record the fitted coupler and tooth layout with the mounting drawing.

A cleanup task separates grasping from excavating

For mixed branches, rocks or broken concrete, a thumb grips an object against the bucket and places it in a receiving pile. A separate rotating grapple orients the load independently; a thumb relies on the bucket and excavator movement. Select the structure around the required reach and placement path, then list cylinder and holding-valve parts on the hydraulic order.

Order the mounting and wear groups

  • Thumb or complete bucket/thumb structure
  • Base plate or main-pin mounting and associated pins
  • Cylinder, pressure/holding-valve arrangement and hoses
  • Tine wear protection and bucket tooth/adapter set
  • Pivot bushes, cylinder seals and hose ends

Cylinder and pivot replenishment follows the selected structure

Buying questions

Is a thumb the same as a grapple?

A thumb grips against the bucket. A separate grapple has its own jaws and may include rotation. They have different working paths and installation requirements.

Can a thumb be selected from bucket width alone?

Width is one measurement. Tine/teeth mesh, pivot position, bucket curl path and the installed coupler also define the combination.

What distinguishes a thumb-bucket order?

It supplies the digging bucket and gripping section as one assembly. A standalone thumb order is designed around the existing bucket and mounting.
