Identify the connection you are measuring

Start with the exact machine model and a photo of its plate. State whether the bucket is pinned directly to the machine or picked up by a quick coupler. If a coupler is fitted, photograph its plate and both sides of the attachment connection.

Record measurements on the attachment that currently fits. The machine-side connection of a coupler and its attachment-side pickup are different interfaces; label which one each photo shows.

Measure both pin diameters

With the attachment removed and supported, clean the accessible pin surfaces. Use a caliper to measure across each pin and record the front and rear readings separately. Take more than one reading where a pin is worn, and include a clear photo of the measurement.

Use millimetres throughout the sketch, or label every measurement with its unit. If the pins have been removed, record the bore measurement separately as a bore measurement rather than presenting it as the pin diameter.

Record the pin centres and inside widths

The pin-centre dimension runs from the centre of one pin to the centre of the other in a side view. Mark the two centres on a photograph or sketch and record that distance. Keep the measuring line aligned with the centres.

Measure the clear inside distance between the mounting ears at the front and rear pin positions. Record each width separately and note any spacers. Add an overall side view so the shape and position of the mounting ears are visible.

Add the coupler and movement details

When buying a quick coupler, send the machine connection details and the pickup dimensions of the attachments you want to use. The coupler pickup range, pin sizes and widths must be considered together.

For a hydraulic tilt bucket, also identify the hose connections and available auxiliary circuit. Include any existing clearance issue, such as contact with the linkage when curling the bucket.

Send a short fitment record

Attach your labelled sketch and measurement photos to the product enquiry. Include a photo of the complete bucket and its current mount. A confirmed dimension drawing can then become part of the quotation.

  • Machine make, model and exact version.
  • Direct pin-on mounting or coupler make and model.
  • Front and rear pin diameters.
  • Pin-centre distance and inside widths at both pin positions.
  • Existing spacers, mounting photographs and required bucket width.
